The word blog is defined as “a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.”

That hardly explains what a blog is, it simply explains the amount of work needed.

I define a blog as a business tool, with one page and multiple articles. Similar to have a personal magazine that you control, edit and write for. Blogs can be used for several purposes; however, the main goal of any blog is to share your thoughts with a person or group of people that may be interested in what you have to say. Many individuals use blogs to share their personal adventures, to make money online and as personal journals. While this tool is widely popular with individuals and small businesses, larger organizations also have blogs on their websites. Even Google has a blog for the organization.

Consider the example above, where a blog is your personal magazine. A blog post is comparable to an individual article. In fact, as you read this, you are on our blog, reading a blog post.

Blog posts are the content in the blog. They tackle different issues and share specific messages to your readers. Blog posts can cover any issues that affect you and you believe would affect your ready.

So, now that you know what a blog Is and what a blog post does, we can now start to discuss how you can use this tool to grow your business.

  1. Good quality blog posts can establish your business as the leading expert in your industry
  2. It is easier to optimize a website for search engines, making it easier for people to find you

Similarly, you may want to compare life insurance products from different companies, in this case, you would read a review blog that covers each agency and clearly lists the pros and cons.

Here is a simple list grouping these reasons:

  2. Get information about a specific topic
  3. Follow the lives of their favorite people
  4. Check if anyone is going through similar situations
  5. Learn how to solve certain problems
  6. Seek the opinion of strangers regarding choices they have to make
  7. Learn new things and topics of interest
  8. Entertainment

These reasons determine why you would implement a blog for your business. It also impacts the topics you would write about. For instance, “how-to” blog posts tend to get more traffic as people want to learn to do things themselves.
